NASA footage taken from the International Space Station shows the distinct 50-mile wide eye of Typhoon Vongfong as it moves towards Japan’s Okinawa islands.
Heavy winds have already disrupted flights and cut power, and the breathtaking images reveal the enormity of Vongfong, Japan’s strongest storm this year.
It is expected to weaken as it moves north and likely to hit land on Monday morning on the westernmost main island of Kyushu, before moving northeast towards Japan’s main island of Honshu on Tuesday.
